About Our Founder Todd Bryant

Our Founder, Todd Bryant

My name is Todd Bryant and I have over fourteen years experience in employee benefit sales and service.

Most important to you, my experience includes eight years as a producing sales representative for major insurance carriers such as Hartford Life and New England Financial. This gives me insider knowledge  on your important timelines, plans, and what makes the insurance carriers tick.
I started SB&K Benefits, LLC to use my consultative skills and expertise to help employer groups design, implement, and manage their benefit plans. My knowledge of the process and strong relationships with insurance carriers benefits you in implementation, service and plan negotiations.

Since I was fifteen, I’ve wanted to run my own company. At the time, I thought my future would be in the bicycle business, as I was a state-ranked bicycle racer working in a bicycle shop to help fund my sport. I have always connected with entrepreneurial business types and found the challenges of business fascinating. After a summer racing in Europe and then running the largest bicycle department in Houston for Sun & Ski Sports, I realized that I would rather ride than start my own shop.

In 1994, I started my career in insurance as a sales representative with New England Financial, working with Agents and Brokers throughout Texas and Louisiana, creating and implementing self-funded medical plans and 401(k) retirement plans. After winning Rookie of the Year and becoming one of their top reps, I set my sights on learning all aspects of group insurance from the inside out. The next 8 years were spent working with group life and disability companies (Hartford), as a stop-loss representative (American Insurance Managers) and as Director of Marketing and Development for a Dental provider organization. After success on the corporate side, I then turned my sights on starting my own business.

In 2005 I founded SB&K Benefits, LLC with the intention of solving the problems I saw employers having with their benefit plans – the need for clear guidance, proper plan designs, clear communication to their employees, updates on the latest plan designs available, and roadmaps for the future. Throughout my career, I have worked with hundreds of clients, from 2 employees to over 6,000.

For the past 20+ years in this business, I’ve really enjoy working with business owners, and as a business owner myself I can connect with the challenges and concerns that Health Care Reform brings. I’ve been through major Texas Health Reform, and saw the good (and bad) that came from that. That is why I have dedicated myself to the study of legislative issues and have committed to keeping my clients and acquaintances up-to-date through my website, newsletters, and important updates as new rules evolve and change. I also keep a list of top-notch Trusted Advisors to help business owners with expertise outside of my core competencies.

In addition to my clients, I am dedicated to the strength of my community. My involvement includes:

South Montgomery County YMCA – Board Member 2005-2012, 2008 & 2009 Chair of the YMCA Partners Campaign, Board Chair 2010-2012; Co-Founder of the Conroe YMCA Trail Run Benefiting Leap of Faith, and served on numerous Houston YMCA Association panels

The Woodlands Rotary Club – Paul Harris Fellow, current member and active on several community service committees.

Breeders Greeters Committeeman – committee volunteer for Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

Montgomery County Society of Human Resource Management – former Board Member and V.P. of Programs

Bible Study Fellowship – Class Administrator

Voice of Wilderness – Volunteer Staff Member and Trip Leader

Inspiration Ranch – former Board Member

Woodlands Cycling Club – past President

I’ve written for national publications such as Employee Benefit Advisor, and been a speaker for YMCA of Greater Houston, Society for Human Resource Management, Vistage, and MetLife. I’ve also been a member of United Healthcare’s Producer Roundtable, and AFLAC’s Broker Advisory Council.

My wife is a professional photographer and owner of Blossom Photography. I’m still an avid cyclist and runner, and working on being fast again.
